Casualties

While we may know it to be true that there will be casualties in any war it is always safe to assume that there will be casualties in any marathon training.

These vary from person to person and can include:

·         Blisters.
·         Pints on a Saturday night.
·         Battered sausages on the way home.
·         Nipple chafing.
·         Sunday lie-ins.
·         Champions League football or the latest box-set.
·         Fledging relationships (although we certainly hope not).
·         Welts.

For me it is one of my toenails. It is the toe next-door to my right-foot Big-Toe

Thankfully the suffering has gone and there is no longer any pain. It has just gone black and the only question now is when. Will it stay with me for the 26.2 or depart before then.

There will be no removal, no funeral, no month’s mind or no obituary but it will be missed, at least until mid-November when in the words of a running friend, runner’s spring will begin and things will grow anew.

Yesterday’s training
Rest. Which, is expected but with the feeling of  a sore throat, might extend a second day.
